Stan is a series of letters from 2021 rookies to their veteran comparisons. Though they are all satire, I’d like to think they are really in the rookie’s diaries.

Dear Trent [Williams],

Hey, this is Penei. I was recently drafted by the Detroit Lions. How are you? I’ve noticed that I was compared to you in a lot of pre-draft articles. I really appreciate the comparison. The way you protected several Washington QBs make me think I’ll be able to protect the bevy of QBs that will probably walk through these doors. The first of which being Jared Goff. Ugh. I’m literally going to have to block for like 10 seconds a play. That dude doesn’t move out of the pocket to save his life. He might have to though because I have no idea who else plays in Detroit. Seriously, do you know? Does anybody know? I mean, I’ve seen 8 Mile, but I doubt that will help. Nevermind. If I have the career you’ve had, I’ll definitely be a Hall of Famer, right? I mean, you don’t have any rings but you’re still going in, right? I just want to be the best I can be for my team, but between you and me, I’m gone the first chance I get. I hate the cold and it looked cold in 8 Mile. Thanks for reading my letter. I hope you respond.

Your biggest fan.
