This has been a strange football season. Covid-19 has tampered with the schedule and rosters of many teams in the NFL. There are still stadiums with no fans and positive tests every week. This week’s blame goes to an entire position group. I would like the QBs from the Denver Broncos to step up and accept your award this week. It all started when Jeff Driskel tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. No huge deal there. It happens. Driskel is like the third string QB and doesn’t see the field very often, so this shouldn’t affect anything, right? Wrong. Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, and Blake Bortles all were designated as “high risk” contacts and made to quarantine as well. That meant, that as of Saturday, the Broncos were scrambling to find someone to play the most important position on their team.
They ended up finding practice squad WR Kendall Hinton to fill in and the results were exactly what you’d expect. Hinton went 1-for-9 for 13 yards with two interceptions and a sack. He finished the day with a staggering -0.8 points. Now, I put none of this on Kendall. He did what was asked in an impossible situation. I put all the blame on all the QBs on that roster. They weren’t wearing masks while in meetings together, which put everyone at risk. They didn’t follow the rules and the league punished them. No conspiracies there. But, in doing that they screwed over anybody who happened to have anybody on Denver’s offense on their fantasy teams. You see, when a team literally can’t throw the ball, it makes it a lot easier to defend against the run. As you’d expect, the Saints scored a whole bunch of points and the Broncos did not. If I were anybody on the Bronco’s roster, I’d make sure to always wear a mask. It’s pretty simple.
